Fiscal Health Score: Score indicating the fiscal health or stability of a country's finances - Jan. 31, 2023

The Fiscal Health Score provides an assessment of a country's fiscal health or stability by considering factors such as government spending, public debt, and budget deficits. This score offers insights into the sustainability of government finances and the management of public resources. Monitoring the Fiscal Health Score helps in understanding the fiscal challenges faced by different countries and their ability to maintain a sound financial position.

As of January 2020, Afghanistan, Estonia, and Hong Kong ranked first with a perfect score of 99.9 in the Fiscal Health Score. These countries demonstrated a high level of fiscal health and stability, indicating responsible government spending, low public debt, and minimal budget deficits. On the other hand, North Korea, Lebanon, and Venezuela received a score of 0, reflecting significant fiscal challenges and instability in their finances.

In January 2021, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Estonia secured the top positions in the Fiscal Health Score. These countries continued to showcase strong fiscal management and stability. Lebanon, Sudan, and Venezuela remained at the bottom of the index, indicating severe fiscal difficulties.

Moving to January 2022 and January 2023, Kuwait, Micronesia, and Kiribati emerged as the top performers in the Fiscal Health Score, reflecting their robust fiscal health and stability. The United States, Venezuela, and Zambia received a score of 0, suggesting significant fiscal challenges. Turkmenistan, Micronesia, and Russia held the top positions in January 2023, while the United States, Bahamas, and Zambia continued to struggle with their fiscal health.

The Fiscal Health Score serves as an important indicator for policymakers, economists, and investors to assess a country's fiscal stability and its ability to manage public finances effectively. It provides valuable insights into the financial health of a nation and can help guide decisions regarding investment, economic policies, and resource allocation.
