At the pinnacle of self-citations, China takes the lead with an impressive count of 812,793 self-citations. This highlights the nation's active engagement with its own body of research and the continuous exploration and development of previously published works.
In the second position, we have the United States with 290,361 self-citations. This demonstrates the country's commitment to building upon its own scientific contributions and fostering a culture of research continuity.
India secures the third spot with 107,713 self-citations, reflecting the nation's dedication to referencing and building upon its own research legacy.
On the other end of the spectrum, at 148th place, we find Honduras with 19 self-citations. Despite being a smaller nation in terms of research output, it shows its willingness to contribute and refer to its own body of scientific literature.
Tajikistan takes the 149th position with 16 self-citations, demonstrating its involvement in self-referential research and knowledge building.
Finally, at 150th place, we have Liberia with 13 self-citations, showcasing its efforts to engage with its own research heritage and contribute to the scientific community.
